The #77 Formula Mazda Team had a very productive weekend at Shannonville Motorsports Park. On 26th, we qualified a 1:44 – 3 seconds better than last year which qualified us for the pole for the race 1. We had some gearbox issues losing first gear before the green flag and had to fight back from a bad start falling to third before the end of the first lap. We persevered passing the second and first place cars and won the race by a 3 second differential over second place. On Sunday during the race 2, the front tires became overheated resulting in a serious handling issue in a number of key corners. Lap times fell off dramatically as the tires continued to overheat – these handling problems were exaggerated when we lost the ability to downshift to third gear during the race relegating us at the finish to P3. For the third and final race, we pulled out all the stops and put on a new set of scuffs to make the most of our ill handling car. We were able to recover the handling of the race car and improve our best lap time to 1:46. We were tracking down the car in P1 but ran out laps and settled on P2 overall for the weekend. During the last race, we lost second gear completely but managed to finish the race in a very respectable position. All in all a great race weekend!! Our promotional partner, Good Cars Only (www.goodcarsonly.com ) provided us with a 2008 GMC Supercab - a very nice vehicle - call Brian to see the truck in person.
